VBH Olympic Suite - A Suite Steeped in History

The Olympic Suite at The Venice Beach House holds a unique piece of Los Angeles Olympic history—its name commemorates the property’s role in hosting a special moment from the 1984 Summer Olympics.

When Los Angeles was selected to host the 1984 Summer Olympics the organizers planned a grand torch relay to unite diverse communities across Southern California. The Olympic torch relay committee rented the entire Venice Beach House as their headquarters for after the torch relay. After the cauldron was lit at the opening ceremonies the committee brought the flame back to the beach house for their party and people took turns running it up and down the beach. This memorable event left a lasting imprint on this historic Venice Beach hotel.

To honor that moment, the hotel’s owners christened one of their premier guest rooms the Olympic Suite, preserving the legacy of that ceremony. Today, the suite stands as a tribute to the convergence of global sportsmanship and local heritage that took place right in its own garden.

The Venice Beach House, originally built in 1911 by newspaperman Warren Wilson, boasts a storied past as a social and cultural landmark in Venice. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its nine unique rooms and suites are named after iconic figures and events in local history—from Aimee Semple McPherson to Charlie Chaplin to James Peasgood. The Olympic Suite fits seamlessly into this tradition, named not for its furnishings, but for its historical significance.

Set on the ground floor, adjacent to the lush, private garden, the Olympic Suite delivers a serene retreat, with a garden view, king-size bed, luxury bedding, and ensuite bath. Guests also enjoy daily breakfast, Aesop bath products, high-speed Wi‑Fi, and other modern comforts—while surrounded by period architecture and vintage charm.

Staying in the Olympic Suite means more than a luxe experience—it’s an invitation to connect with a moment when The Venice Beach House briefly became part of Olympic history. As guests drift to sleep among elegant craftsman details and wake up to gentle morning light on the garden, they follow in the footsteps of past torchbearers.

Historic resonance: The suite encapsulates both local lore and a globally significant event.
