Peasgood was the City Treasurer of Venice.
His actions shaped the history of Venice more than
any other single person. In 1922, Peasgood embezzled the
Venice City Treasury causing angry citizens
to vote for annexation to Los Angeles, which promptly
filled most of the Venice Canals, changed the street
names, and granted variance for 325 oil wells within
blocks of the Venice Beach House. When Peasgood
left his note on the door that said "Gone Fishing"
